(Poll)New Orleans Elite wins the 2014 Southern Slam Title: Video HighlightsMore NewsMore PhotosMore VideosThat Louisiana high schools have put more NFL players per capita on Week 1 rosters than any other state has been true for the last five seasons. Now, based on additional figures put out by USA Football during the week, that should remain true for at least a few more years. One year after Louisiana high schools ranked second per capita as a producer of players selected in the 2013 NFL draft, the state placed second again in the 2014 NFL draft.According to data provided by USA Football, Louisiana had 21 players drafted over the last two seasons, which means one out of every 215,875 residents was picked. That ranked first ahead of South Carolina (21 total; one out of 220,225) and Georgia (37 total; one out of 261,828).The state with the most players drafted overall over the last two years was Florida, with 71. But, with a population of more than than 18 million, that state’s per capita count came to one in 264,807, well behind Louisiana.Of the 11 players who attended Louisiana high schools and were picked in 2013 NFL draft, each is still on an NFL roster. This includes seventh round linebacker Michael Mauti out of Mandeville and Penn State, who is now with the Minnesota Vikings.Whether each of the 10 Louisiana players picked in 2014 are on rosters at this time next year remains to be seen, but that could only help the state remain a producer of NFL talent.
